Glowing tributes paid to Ambedkar

VIJAYAWADAMACHILIPATNAM: The Municipal Administration Minister, Koneru Ranga Rao, has said that the ideals advocated by B.R. Ambedkar during his lifetime will be fulfilled only when the country's weaker sections are allowed to fully enjoy their rights and opportunities.

"It is now our responsibility to follow in his footsteps," Mr. Rao said, addressing a meeting organised at Tummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram on Thursday on the occasion of 114th birthday celebrations of Dr. Ambedkar.

The Minister along with the Vijayawada MP, Lagadapati Rajagopal, the Vijayawada East MLA, Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, the Chairman of VGTMUDA, Malladi Vishnu, and others garlanded a photograph of Dr. Ambedkar.

Approval

The joint secretary of Ambedkar Bhavan Trust, Talluri Vishnu, and the State secretary of SC Cell, Bodapati Babu Rao, who addressed the meeting, said that the Parliament should give its approval for considering dalit Christians as Scheduled Castes.

The day marked widespread celebrations with various people's organisations, political parties and NGOs paying rich tributes to Dr. Ambedkar.

At a meeting organised by the City Congress Committee at Andhra Ratna Bhavan, several leaders paid floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of City Congress, Kadiayala Buchchibabu, said that Dr. Ambedkar's foresight in providing various constitutional safeguards had gone a long way in improving the living standards of weaker sections in society.

The member of PCC, Burri Samuel, the SC Cell chief advisor of PCC, Varakala Adam, and others were present.

Prayers and garlanding of Dr. Ambedkar's photographs marked his birthday celebrations organised by different organisations.

VIJAYAWADAMACHILIPATNAM: P. Venkateswara Rao, Minister for Higher Education, Perni Venkatramaiah, MLA, (Machilipatnam) B. Veda Vyas, MLA and chairman, Andhra Pradesh Assembly Estimates Committee, P. Sampath Kumar, Joint Collector (Krishna district), N. Chandramouli, SP, and others paid tributes to Ambedkar by garlanding his statue at Lakshmi talkies centre.
