NEW DELHI: With only two days left for the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, to arrive in the Capital, the Delhi police are working overtime to chalk out a foolproof plan for his security. Though there are no concrete inputs of any threats to him, the police are leaving nothing to chance. General Musharraf is scheduled to arrive in the Capital on April 16 and would be put up at Hotel Taj on Man Singh Road. Keeping in view the VVIP movements during his three-day stay here, the New Delhi police in coordination with the Police Control Room, the traffic police and hotel security have made elaborate plans for deployment of force in the area.

Security at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium where the sixth One-Day International match between Indian and Pakistan would be played would be extremely tight as the Pakistan President and the Indian Prime Minister are scheduled to watch the contest for about 70 minutes this coming Sunday.

Every spectator would be physically frisked before being allowed entry into the stadium and drinking water bottles and edibles would not be allowed. Around 5,000 personal belonging to various agencies would form several layers of security rings around the stadium. Almost all the senior police officers would be present that day to oversee the arrangements.

It is learnt that this Wednesday, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), Karnal Singh, held a meeting with senior police officers to discuss the threats and arrangements being made to counter them through both on the upper-ground and the clandestine operations. The Special Branch has been entrusted with the task of keeping track of those coming from Pakistan to watch the One-Day International match in Delhi. The Indian agencies have issued over 2,500 entry tickets and passes for people from Pakistan.

This apart, the Special Branch has been passing on inputs on suspicious activities across the Capital to the district police. "There is no concrete information about any threats during General Musharraf's visit. However, keeping in mind that he has been actively involved in the United States-led `war against terror', there are apprehensions that certain fundamentalist groups might do some mischief," said an official.
