TUTICORIN: A high-level team from the Forest department, which arrived here to assess the potential of coastal afforestation in the tusnami-affected coastal areas in the district, concluded their two-day visit on Thursday. On the first day, the team comprising G. Balan Samson, additional principal chief conservator of forests, and P. Subramaniam, chief conservator of forests, Tiruchi range, visited the coastal towns of Vembar, Periyasamypuram, Vypar and Tharuvaikulam areas and explored the possibilities of planting species such as mangrove and casurina. The team, accompanied by V. Thirunavukarasu, district forest officer, inspected Mullakadu, Palayakayal, Punnakayal, Tiruchendur, Kulasekarapattinam and Manapadu areas.
