This Day That Age
The second volume of the Tamil Encyclopaedia, being compiled by the Tamil Academy, was released by the Governor, Mr. Sri Prakasa, at a function held at the Madras University building in Madras on April 14. Speaking on the occasion, he referred to the need for evolving suitable technical and scientific terms in our languages to convey modern ideas and expressed the hope that the terminology which those in charge of the Tamil Encyclopaedia adopted would be such as could also serve the needs of other languages of the country. Mr. C. Rajagopalachari welcoming the publication stressed the importance of conveying modern knowledge in Tamil language understood by the average reader. Mr. C. Subramaniam, Minister for Finance and Education, who presided, said the Government would take the initiative for setting up a committee to prepare a list of suitable technical and scientific terms in Tamil if there was general agreement in the matter. The volume, which is very well printed and illustrated, is dedicated to the memory of "Kalki."
