SALEM: : The officials of Town Planning and Engineering Departments of various corporations and municipalities discussed amendments to be introduced in the natural disaster management rules in order to mitigate damages during natural disasters. The State Government had formed a technical committee to suggest amendments to the rules. The first meeting of the committee was held in the Salem Corporation on Friday. The committee members interacted with officials from Coimbatore, Tirupur, Pollachi, Dindigul, Vellore, Tiruchi and Thanjavur on various construction concepts to be followed to minimise the damage during natural disasters such as earthquakes, landslides, floods, cyclones and tsunami. Among others, Salem, Dharmapuri, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Chennai, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari were identified as districts, which faced moderate earthquake risk.
