COIMBATORE: The Tirupur-based Ahill Group plans to venture into the Sri Lankan market with its BodyGlove brand shortly. Its Director, N. K. Karthikeyan, told The Hindu here recently that the group was negotiating with a Sri Lankan company for marketing tie-up and also studying the Sri Lankan market. Initially, about 10,000 pieces would be marketed in Sri Lanka (mainly T-shirts, sportswear and inner garments). Later, its other products would also be introduced. The group, with annual exports to the tune of Rs. 50 crores, entered the domestic market three years ago by launching products under the BodyGlove brand and now marketed mainly through multi-brand stores. It had a presence already in the Southern States, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan and "We will enter the northern and eastern markets vigorously in three to six months," he said. It would be launching inner garments in the domestic market in June and to start with it would be 25,000 to 30,000 pieces a month. The volume of business expected in the local market during 2005-06 was Rs. 8-10 crores. Mr. Karthikeyan said that the group had knitting, processing, finishing facilities and planned to commission its spinning unit with 12,000 spindles next year.
