HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party is getting ready to conduct its annual Mahanadu this year at "Telugu Vijayam" near Gandipet here between May 27 and 29.

At a press conference here on Friday, the party's Election Committee convenor, Revuri Prakash Reddy said a decision to this effect was taken by the party's executive committee which met at NTR Bhavan here on Friday.

This would be the first meeting of the party to be held at "Telugu Vijayam" after a gap of more than one decade. It was the party's headquarters till the reins of power were transferred from N.T. Rama Rao to the present party chief, N. Chandrababu Naidu. The last meeting held at the venue was that of the Telugu Desam Legislature Party meeting in 1994 soon after the TDP trounced the Congress at the hustings.

It may be recalled that after a protracted litigation in court between the party and NTR's wife N. Lakshmi Parvati, the TDP got possession of the property only a few months ago.

Mr. Prakash Reddy told presspersons that the party had made changes to the conduct of organisational elections announced earlier. Now elections to party units at the village, municipalities and corporation levels would be held between April 27 and May 2, while district committees would be elected on May 13 and 14. After reviewing the performance of district office-bearers, the party would conduct elections where its leaders had not met expectations of the party, he said.
