VELLORE: Over 400 persons were treated at a special medical camp conducted by the Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore at the temporary housing colony in the tsunami-hit village of Tirumullaivasal in Nagapattinam district last week. Free medical tests were conducted and medicines distributed free of cost to the tsunami-hit inhabitants of the temporary shelters by a team of doctors. K.R.John, Deputy Director, CMC Hospital supervised the camp which was inaugurated by S.A.Latheef, chairman of the Kollidam panchayat union. Those whose health was seriously affected by the tsunami were recommended for treatment at the CMC Hospital. The hospital had already provided immediate relief materials such as food, clothing and medicines to the tsunami-hit people soon after the calamity struck the Nagapattinam coast in the last week of December.
Counselling
Psychiatric counselling was also provided to the affected people. Medical teams led by Dr.John and Samuel Chittaranjan were providing continuous medical treatment to the affected people not only in Tirumullaivasal but also in other affected villages in Nagapattinam district such as Koozhayar, Thoduvai, Chinna Kottaimedu and Kottaimedu. At another function held last week, the CMC Hospital provided free cycles to 14 students of Chinna Kottaimedu, who are studying in the school in Pudupattinam which is far away from their homes.
