Pondicherry
PONDICHERRY: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) member, T. Murugan, today urged that auto drivers be included in the schedule of the unorganised labour sector. Addressing auto drivers after opening the `V.P. Chinthan auto stand' on Friday, Mr. Murugan said the Pondicherry administration should ensure payment of monthly pension to auto drivers who had crossed 60. He also sought distribution of raincoats to the workers. The secretary of the Pondicherry region CPI (M), V. Perumal, said the Administration should earmark at least Rs. 1 crore for the schemes to benefit workers in the unorganised sector; the present allocation of Rs. 55 lakhs was not sufficient.
