Rupee loses further ground
MUMBAI:
The rupee lost heavy ground against the U.S. currency Friday due to renewed dollar demand from banks on the back of a resurgent dollar overseas with sentiment partly affected by the global weakness in equity markets.
In a nervous trade at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee closed at 43.8225/8300 a dollar, over eight paise decline from Wednesday's finish of 43.74/75 after hitting the day's low of 43.8375/8450.
It opened distinctly weak at 43.80/81 a dollar. PTI
