ERODE: Seven persons, including five women, were killed in two separate accidents, last night in Dharapuram. According to police, S.S. Chinnasamy (65), an industralist, and his friend Shanmugam (55) were proceeding to Palani and Tiruchendur from Velliraveli with their families in a new jeep. When the vehicle neared arukkampalayam in Kangeyam-Dharapuram main road, it collided head on with at a tourist bus. Chinnasamy, Shanmugam, his wife Alamelu, and his relatives Rukmani, Bagyalakshmi were killed on the spot. Four others, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and they were rushed to the Kangeyam Government Hospital, from where they were referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. In the other accident at Manakkadavu near Dharapuram, a van collided with a stationed lorry killing two women instantly. The van, carrying six persons of a family, was on its way back from Palani, when it dashed against a stationed lorry. The victims were identified as Kandayee (55) and Parvathy (40). Four others, who were seriously injured, were admitted to the Dharapuram Government Hospital for treatment.
