Differences in Congress over protocol issue

Staff Reporter

MP keeps away from official programmes

KURNOOL: Differences in the Congress in Kurnool district came to the fore with the District Congress Committee (DCC) headed by the MP, Kotla Jayasuryaprakasa Reddy, deciding to keep away from the official programmes.

The DCC nursed a grouse that no visiting Minister, including the Minister from the district, M. Mareppa, ever informed of their tour to the party office. The visit of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on the launching day of Praja Pratham at Pandurangapuram near Nandyal was not officially communicated.

When the TDP leaders criticised the Chief Minister's programme the next day, no Congress leader countered the charges. Also, a section of Congress leaders were sore over the appointment of Bhupal Reddy as the chairman of Agriculture Market Committee at Kurnool.

The last straw was the sharp comments by Mr. Mareppa at the Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations when he said that a section of party leaders had worked against him during the selection of candidates and formation of the Cabinet.

The Kodumur MLA, M. Sikhamani, also distanced himself from the DCC leaders and moved closer to Mr. Mareppa. The trouble in the ruling party circles also percolated to the administration, which was in confusion over taking a decision as one group proposed and another group disposed.
