Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: The Minister for Lift Irrigation, M. Mareppa, said that works costing Rs. 50 crores were underway in the district as part of employment generation programme. Addressing the meeting of Praja Patham at Munagalapadu near here on Friday, he said the funds constituted 33,000 tonnes of rice. A road from L. Pet to Peddapadu was being constructed at a cost of Rs 2.7 lakhs.

Most of the works were grounded for providing employment to labourers during lean season. Mr. Mareppa said 93.3 per cent of farmers were covered under free power scheme.

In Kurnool district, around 97 per cent farmers came under the scheme. Free power facility was withdrawn from farmers who had more than four pumpsets. In Aluru constituency only one farmer was excluded from free power scheme. The Minister said 5,700 pensions were sanctioned for Kurnool district. The beneficiaries would be selected at gram sabhas.
