KOCHI: The AICC general secretary, Anil Sastri, is hopeful of a record turnout at the Congress rally here on Saturday. Addressing presspersons on Friday after examining the arrangements at Marine Drive, the venue of the public meeting, Mr. Sastri said the party cadres were intact. He said the workers would continue to strive for the success of the party during the forthcoming panchayat and Assembly elections. Asked whether the proposed meeting of the Karunakaran faction on May 1 would adversely affect the prospects of the Congress, Mr. Sastri said Mr. Karunakaran was a senior leader who would not indulge in any activities harming the interests of the party. Moreover, he had affirmed his loyalty to Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Sastri said.
