CHITRADURGA: Vishwakarma Maha Sammelana Samithi has urged the Government to provide three per cent reservation for the community within the 15 per cent reservation for backward classes in the State. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, K.P. Nanjunadachar, the TV actor popularly known as K.P. Nanjundi, said, "Vishwakarma community has been deprived of benefits from the Government for want of organised efforts, and most of the artisans of the community are on the streets. Only strong organisation will help get its due share." The samithi has already organised 58 taluk conventions and 27 district conventions to create awareness among the people of the community. One mammoth State-level rally will be convened at the National College grounds in Bangalore on May 26 this year, in which around three lakh delegates, 67 pontiffs of various mutts of the community and several Central and State leaders will participate, he said. The convention proposes to urge the Government to fulfil several demands, which will help the community to achieve social justice. K. Mallikarjuanachar, president; A. Shankarachar vice-president; Rajendrachar, general secretary; and other office-bearers of the Chitradurga district unit were present.
