CHENNAI: An international film festival featuring 15 movies made by women directors began in Chennai on Friday. Gabriele M. Landwehr, director, Max Mueller Bhavan, Chennai, inaugurated the festival. "I am happy these films are directed by women directors across the globe. One must see these movies to know the mind and inner thoughts of women," Ms. Landwehr said. Bina Paul Venugopal, Deputy Director, Kerala Chalachitra Academy, said the country should hold more such festivals. "I welcome such festivals as films of this quality are made with a purpose." O. Santhanam, Deputy Director, Directorate of Film Festivals, said the five-day festival was being jointly organised by Point of View, Mumbai; Indian Women's Association, Chennai and The International Cine Appreciation Foundation. Most of the films are award winners. The opening film was "Harlequin", directed by Lotte Reigner, a pioneer in making an animated feature films. Actress Revathy will discuss her film "Phir Milenge" on April 18. The screenings are at the South Indian Film Chamber complex near Gemini circle.
