CHENNAI: Improving technology and financing to develop competitiveness will be the primary focus of a pan-Commonwealth institutional building programme on small business development in India to be held here from April 17 to 22. It will be attended by delegates from over 30 countries. Hosted by the Commonwealth Secretariat (CS), London, and the National Small Industries Corporation Ltd (NSIC), the programme will focus on "pro-poor growth and sustainable small business development" and issues related to the relevance of small businesses in economic development policies, institutions and their impact on small business development and technology. Senior policymakers in governments and captains of industry will share their experience during the programme. At the 2003 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, it was stressed that a concerted effort was required for sustainable broad-based growth to enable countries to cope with the challenges of poverty and investment in human development.
