Boy fatally hit by van

TIRUCHI: A 10-year-old boy was fatally knocked down by a van on the national highway near Siruganur in Tiruchi district on Thursday.

The police said Prakash, a Standard IV student, was walking along the road when the van hit him. He died on way to the hospital. Van driver Karthikeyan was arrested. The Siruganur police have registered a case.

Cycle rally

A cycle rally was taken out in Mannachanallur under the auspices of the Village Development Centre recently to highlight the various issues.

The Director of the Centre, K. R. Raju, led the rally, which was flagged off from Tiruppainjeeli by the district secretary of the Indian National Village Workers' Union, S. S. Govindan.

Gang hacks

youth to death

A twenty-one year old youth, C. Sivakumar (21) of North Kattur was hacked to death by a three-member gang on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday night.

Sivakumar was intercepted by the gang near the Kattur Bazaar late last night and was attacked with aruvals. He died on the spot. Police suspect previous enmity to be the motive behind the murder. A manhunt has been launched to was underway to nab the suspects.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 53.41 feet today.

The inflow was 683 cusecs and the discharge 100 cusecs. — Staff Reporter.
