VISAKHAPATNAM: The National Commission for Welfare of Backward Classes has recommended to the Government to enhance the age relaxation for the BC candidates appearing for Civil Services examination, from the present three years to five years. Revealing this at a meeting to review the BC welfare activities here on Friday, the commission member, Babu Rao Varma, said that the commission had recently recognised 11 castes of Andhra Pradesh such as Palekari, Nagaralu, Boudhi, Koorakula, Kaatikapari, etc., as backward, while applications on behalf of two more castes --- Pahilman and Tamalapaakula --- for inclusion in the BC list were pending. People belonging to the 11 new castes included in the BC list were eligible to receive OBC certificates irrespective of their income. The recognition by the National Commission would help the people of the 11 castes while seeking employment in the Union Government. The State Government was also asked to recognise these castes, he said.
