Walking track is her unfinished task

Staff Reporter

Kompalli Subbulu

GUNTUR: Half of Nallacheruvu tank was encroached upon and Workers' Colony built, but the remaining portion needs to be deepened and protected by creating a walking track all round it, says Kompalli Subbulu, who represented the 41st division in the superseded Guntur Municipal Corporation.

The Municipal Corporation had allocated houses to municipal workers in the colony, but did not take interest in protecting the remaining area of the tank, she opined. Proposals for deepening the tank were submitted to the council, which initiated some deepening work just before rains and works came to a standstill, she observes.

Encroachments

A walking track and benches for people to sit would protect it from encroachers and misuse of the water body. Deepening of the tank would make it useful for all colonies surrounding it as water levels in the bores would be intact, he adds. A 500 square yards plot in the workers' colony meant for a health centre and other common utilities were also encroached upon, which should be immediately vacated and a Urban Health Centre constructed for the people of the division, he explains. Her achievements include all lanes of D. Sanjeev Nagar re-laid with cement concrete roads and borewells for all the streets. The unfinished work during her term was providing drinking water with full pressure in lanes 12 to 16. About 100 tap connections were also given under the Rs. 1,200 scheme in the slums.
