MALMO: Second seed K. Sasikiran overpowered Swedish International Master Emil Hermansson in 74 moves to open his campaign on a winning note in the 13th Sigeman & Co. chess tournament here on Friday. In the 10-player round-robin tournament, four out of five first-round games proved decisive. In the only drawn encounter, favourite Hikaru Nakamura, the 17-year-old sensation representing America, signed peace with third seed Curt Hansen in 41 moves. The results (first round): Sune Berg Hansen (Den) lost to Jonny Hector (Swe); Emil Hermansson (Swe) lost to K. Sasikiran; Jan Timman (Ned) bt Davor Palo (Den); Hikaru Takamura (U.S.) drew with Curt Hansen (Den); Viorel Iordachescu (Mda) bt Davor Palo (Den).
