Desecration of Ambedkar statue condemned

Staff Correspondent

BELGAUM: The Dalit Sangarsh Samithi and Sarvodaya Karnataka have condemned the desecration of statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Nippani on Friday.

In a press release issued here on Saturday, the District Convenor of DSS, Gireppa Kolkar, said that it act is not only a black spot on the peace-loving and secular fabric of Nippani town but an attack on the Constitution.

Appealing for the peace and communal harmony, the two organisations have demanded the arrest of the miscreants responsible, failing which they said they would launch an aggressive agitation.

A meeting of Dalit leaders to chalk out future course of action has been called at Ambedkar Bhavan in the city on April 19.

Bandh call

Hubli Staff Correspondent reports:

Activists of several Dalit organisations and members of various political parties in the city took out a procession and staged a "rasta roko" at several places for over two hours here protesting against the desecration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's statue in Nippani on Friday.

They organisations have called for a "Hubli bandh" on April Monday to condemn the incident.
