Three sentenced to death for children's murder

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: For the first time in recent history, a sessions court here on Saturday awarded the death sentence to three youths for kidnapping and murdering two children of their employer at Eklaspura village in Raichur two years ago.

Beevulal alias Sanjay (18) of Ejipura, Kishan (18) of Venkatapura and Chandrashekhar (19) of Koramangala were found guilty of abducting six-year-old Vishal and his brother, Nikhil (7), from their Vannarpet Layout house in the city's Viveknagar on March 24, 2003. The children were bludgeoned to death with boulders at an isolated place in Raichur, the police said. The three were sentenced to death by the Fourth Additional Sessions judge, B. Yoginath. The public prosecutor Durga Simha Myageri argued the case on behalf of the State.

Police investigations had revealed that the three youths were employed by the victims' father, Gautamchand. Beevulal and Kishan are from Rajasthan. They reportedly hatched the abduction plan to demand a ransom from Mr. Gautamchand as they were not happy with the salary. The Viveknagar police, on receiving a complaint from Mr. Gautamchand, had fixed a caller ID machine to his telephone and traced the calls made by the abductors to an STD booth in Raichur. A special team arrested the accused on March 26, 2003.
