Hoax bomb call creates panic in Mysore hotel

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Panic gripped a hotel here on Saturday after it received a call that a bomb has been planted on its premises. However, it turned out to be a hoax. Staff and occupants of the Hotel Viceroy on Harsha Road vacated their rooms in a hurry after the call was received.

The police rushed to the hotel with sniffer dogs and conducted a through search. Traffic on Harsha Road was diverted till they completed the search. It took more than half-an-hour for the police to clear the building for occupation. Meanwhile, the occupants were shifted to Hotel President in the vicinity. The police said they swung into action after the hotel management and the local police station received calls that a bomb has been kept in one of the rooms. The calls were traced to a public telephone booth near the hotel.

Two drown

Two engineers from Bangalore drowned in the Cauvery at Balamuri near here on Thursday. They were on a picnic. The police gave the names of the victims as Nishanth, 24, and Thobias, 23. Sources said the incident occurred when Thobias slipped into the river and Nishanth jumped to rescue him. Both were swept away. However, local people rescued Thobias, who died at hospital. Nishanth's body was recovered on Friday.
