CHENNAI: A 25-year-old man sustained knife injuries in a quarrel that erupted among fans watching a Rajnikant movie at a cinema hall in Ambattur on Thursday evening. Police said the victim, M. Karthigeyan of Mettu Street, was watching Chandramukhi. Santhanam (55) of Ambattur, who was sitting behind him, allegedly disturbed him. The war of words turned violent when Karthigeyan was attacked with a knife. He was admitted to a private hospital.
House break-in
Thieves broke into the house of an engineer in Porur and took away four sovereigns of jewellery and a motorcycle. Police said the engineer, Sobraj (35), had gone out of town with his family. When he returned on Thursday, he found the door of his house in Sabari Nagar open. In another case of break-in at Poonamallee, thieves entered the house of Gomathi. Police said the inmates had gone out of town. On Saturday, the neighbours noticed the front door of the house open. They informed the police and the resident, Ms. Gomathi. Police said the value of the jewellery and cash kept in the house could not be ascertained.
Chain snatched
A woman was relieved of her gold chain weighing about three sovereigns, while she was walking on a road in Pallikaranai on Friday. According to police, the woman, Gomathi, was returning home from a shop. Two persons in a two-wheeler allegedly snatched the chain from her and escaped. Gold jewellery weighing about four sovereigns was removed from a woman, who was sleeping in her house in Sathangadu, near Manali, on Friday.
Gang arrested
The Korattur police arrested a four-member gang for allegedly kidnapping one Sundar (42) of Korattur, on Saturday.
