SALEM: The Social Welfare Minister, Vijayalakshmi Palanisamy, declared open the newly-built auditorium for the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College here on Saturday evening. The auditorium, constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.29 crores by the Public Works Department, has a seating capacity of 750. It has facilities such as projector room to screen films. Besides, it has separate make up rooms for men and women, toilets, portico, VIP entry, emergency exits, drinking water and rainwater harvesting facilities. The State Government had ordered the construction of an auditorium to the medical college on June 2002. During the introductory remarks, the students appealed to the Minister to fulfil the infrastructural requirements of the college. They sought a fully equipped library building, audience gallery on the college playground, compound walls and another college bus. They also complained that the trainee doctors' hostel and the college did not receive sufficient water supply from the Salem Corporation and demanded new bore wells.
Issues for CM
Speaking at the function, the minister assured the students that she would place the problems and infrastructural requirements of the college before the Chief Minister who would take necessary steps to fulfil their demands. The college's annual day was held at the new auditorium.
