Dream innings

Dream innings

Sir, — Hats off to Shahid Afridi for playing a dream innings. In scoring 102 off 46 balls, he proved that his effort of scoring the fastest century (off 37 balls) against Sri Lanka a few years ago was not a flash in the pan. One could not stop applauding his lusty hits despite the fact that it was the Indians who were at the receiving end.

P. Krishna,

Chennai

Inzy's triple `C'

Sir, — W.V. Raman is right when he says that it was Inzi's triple `C' — coolness, composure and captaincy — that won Pakistan the Ahmedabad one-dayer (The Hindu, April 13). History has shown that Pakistan can clinch victory off the last ball and this is was another such instance.

Krishna Rajgopal,

Chennai

Taking charge

Sir, — The problem with Indian batting is that except Virender Sehwag there is none to take charge and lead the way. Even a senior player like Rahul Dravid was unable to force the pace in the Kochi one-dayer after Sehwag's departure. So much so from around 200 for two in 35 overs, India could muster only 280 plus in 50 overs.

R. Ravi,

Chennai

Overkill

Sir, — Are the advertisers and television channels aware of the negative impact of the overdose of advertisements during cricket matches? One thinks not given the frequent interruptions that mar viewing. Care needs to be taken to ensure that the display awaits the completion of overs and the summing up by the commentator.

A.K. Banerji,

Kolkata

Deplorable

Sir, — If the action of the ICC match referee to ban Sourav Ganguly for six ODIs deserves to be condemned, then the reaction of some fans is equally deplorable. Undoubtedly the most successful captain in Indian cricket, Ganguly has amassed close to 10,000 runs. The shabby treatment being meted out to him is unfortunate.
