BELGAUM: The Belgaum Manipal Finance Group's Depositors' Association has appealed to all the depositors, who have fallen prey to the group, not to sign any "proxy form" and reject the group's proposal seeking six years to return the deposits. Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, the president of the association, D.C. Deshpande, and the secretary, R.K. Nesargi, said there are about 1,500 persons, who had deposited nearly Rs. 2.40 crores with the group. It was on May 20, 2001 when the group had screened a video at Hotel Milan in the city claiming Rs. 1,000 crore business and allayed fears about the group's integrity. The group shut shop within two months on July 1, 2001. The group had obtained six years time to return the deposits. They said that the group continued to recover loans and has not disclosed its transactions to the depositors. The group was trying to play the same game by planning to mobilise depositors' opinion by proxy at Manipal on April 20.
