Temporary shelters provided to families

PONDICHERRY: The Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore diocese Dr.Antony Anandarayar distributed fishnets and cycle rickshaws to the fisherfolk in tsunami-hit coastal villages in Manalmedu village in Uppalam Assembly constituency here on Saturday.

The relief materials distributed under the banner livelihood support to the tsunami affected families` would enable the beneficiaries to eke out their living in the post tsunami period.

The Pondicherry Multipurpose Service Society, a wing of the diocese, arranged for the relief materials.

The Principal of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School Fr.S. Antonysamy and the parish priest of Uppalam Rev Fr.Swaminathan were also among those who handed the relief kits. The Archbishop later told The Hindu at the village that the diocese had been providing the relief in a phased manner to the affected families not only in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions but also in the hamlets in the neighbouring districts of Villupuram and Cuddalore of Tamil Nadu.
