Counselling

BANGALORE: Counselling for the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET-2005) candidates will be conduced on the university premises at 4th T block, Jayanagar here. `Release pension'

BANGALORE: The BJP has demanded that the Government should take steps to release pension and other benefits to retired employees in Bangalore and town municipal councils.

The State Government issued an order on October 1, 2004 stopping the release of pension benefits to retired employees of urban local bodies.

In a press statement here on Saturday, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, B.S. Yediyurappa, said that many retired employees of over 200 city and town municipal councils have been facing financial problems on account of the Government's decision. - Special Correspondent

JD(S) district chief

BIJAPUR: The Janata Dal (S) leader, Mallikarjun Yandigeri, has been appointed president of party's district unit. Mr. Yandigeri had been secretary of the State unit of the party. The former MLC, S.D. Karpoorimath, the former Minister, M.C. Managuli, and the MLA, R.K Rathod, were also in the race for the

post.

Bandh called

BIJAPUR: Dalit organisations have called for a bandh in Bijapur and Bagalkot on Monday to protest against the alleged desecration of Ambedkar statue in Nippani. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in both districts.

The police have warned trouble makers of stringent action.

The police are also taking extra care because the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists have also planned a protest on Monday against the ban on the entry of their leader, Pramod Muthalik, into Bijapur district till April 30.

Opposed

Bidar: A zilla panchayat member and some Janata Dal (Secular) leaders have opposed the Government's move to create a new zilla panchayat constitutency in Aurad taluk.

In a memorandum to the Revenue Minister, M.P. Prakash, they have accused the Congress leader and Minister for Forests, Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli, of trying to get Wadagaon (D) upgraded into a separate constituency for his political convenience.

This decision is arbitrary and unscientific, they said.

Houses damaged

TUMKUR: Two houses at Havala village in Turuvekere taluk of Tumkur district were damaged in lightning on Saturday night. H.R. Rangappa, a brick kiln owner, said his house and that of his brother, Ramachandraiah, which are adjacent to each other, were hit by lightning. Electrical goods were destroyed and the roof of his house collapsed, he said.

Petrol supply to

be hit today

Mysore: Petrol and diesel supply in Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya and Madikere districts will be affected on Monday in the wake of the strike by petroleum dealers. The dealers are seeking an increase in the commission which, they say, has not been announced for many years now. — Staff Correspondent

Sarvodaya Karnataka meet

Mysore: The district-level meeting of Sarvodaya Karnataka, a political party, will be held here on Monday. The former Chairman of the Karnataka Backward Classes Commission Ravi Kumar Verma will inaugurate the meeting. The convention will be attended by members of the Dalit Sangarsha Samiti, Karunadu Sene, intellectuals, social activists, rationalists and others. Sarvodaya Karnataka President Devanoor Mahadev, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha president, K.S. Puttanaiah, and others will participate. — Staff Correspondent

Health camp

Mysore: A general health check-up camp will be conducted by Bharat Diagnostic Centre on Tuesday between 9.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The camp will be held on the centre's premises on Irwin Road and has been sponsored by A.S. Raghavkumar, a retired Professor of Education, University of Mysore.

Those with complaints of headache, lump in any part of the body, sore throat, ulcer, swelling and pain in the abdomen may attend the camp.

Mysore: Sparda Academy at Marimallappa's College here will conduct a training camp for candidates appearing for the State Level Eligibility Test (SLET).
