Development indicator?

The editorial, "Death in a booming economy", (April 16), points to the continuum of neglect as opposed to the "continuum of care" recommended in the World Health Report, 2005. Poor nutrition, early marriages, and anaemia in mothers lead to underweight babies, early infections and, weak immune systems. Poor women return to work within 7-25 days of delivery and the child suffers damaging neglect in the early days.
