KOZHIKODE: Two lakh workers from six northern districts are expected for the regional rally being organised by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) here on Tuesday to commemorate the platinum jubilee of the Dandi Yatra.

The rally and a public meeting following it will be a show of strength by the official faction of the Congress as the `I' group in the faction-ridden party recently organised regional rallies, claiming participation of lakhs of workers. Arrangements are on in full swing with publicity material, including cut-outs, banners and arches, being put up in all parts of the city.

Nearly 5,000 vehicles have been booked for transporting workers to the city from Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad districts.

M. Veerankutty, chairman of the reception committee and president of the District Congress Committee, said here on Sunday that it would be an occasion for party workers of Malabar to show which section of the Congress they belonged.

The All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, Ahmed Patel, will inaugurate the public meeting on the Kozhikode beach. The KPCC president, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, will preside over the event. The AICC secretary Anil Sastry; the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy; his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, Y.S.
