THRISSUR: The Vigilance Enquiry Commissioner and Special Judge, Thrissur, M.V. Viswanathan, has ordered a preliminary enquiry into the allegations of corruption in the distribution of drinking water in the Thrissur Corporation area. The judge gave this order on a petition filed by the social activist P.D. Joseph who alleged that Rs. 50 lakhs was misappropriated from the fund of the Corporation by forging documents related to distribution of water. According to the petitioner, the officers concerned of the Kerala Water Authority and the Corporation had colluded for causing damage to the water pipelines by creating air pressure in pipelines, and for getting bribe from the operators of water tanker lorries. The petition also alleged that old and unhygienic water tanks were being used for distributing water in tanker lorries. The Judge said it was reported that the DySP of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Thrissur, Mohanan had conducted some enquiry into this matter.
