YSR, Naidu

greet people

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Sunday greeted people on the occasion of Sriramanavami.

In a message, he said Lord Rama stood for justice, moral and human values.

In his message, the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, conveyed his greetings to people. By following the ideals of truth, justice and non-violence propounded by Lord Rama, harmony and happiness could prevail in society, Mr. Naidu said. -Staff Reporter

Dismissal of DGP demanded

HYDERABAD: The BJP Mahila Morcha on Sunday demanded dismissal of the DGP, Swaranjit Sen, alleging that he was trying to bail out his wife, Anita Sen, of the cases booked against her in the child adoption racket.

Addressing a press conference here, morcha leaders -- V. Jhansi Rani and Y. Swaroopa Rani -- also demanded withdrawal of the case booked against the IAS officer, Shalini Mishra. They accused the Government of trying to harass an honest and efficient official.

They warned that an agitation would be launched by the morcha if their demands were not conceded.

Six naxalites

surrender

Sangareddy: Six naxalites of the CPI Maoist and the CPI(ML) Janashakti, including two women, surrendered before the DIG of Nizamabad range, Anjani Kumar, and the Superintendent of Police, B.L. Sujatha Rao, on Sunday at the Medak police headquarters in Sangarreddy.

The surrendered naxalites are: Byagari Mallesham (22), Gangadhar Mahender alias Mahesh (19), Godugu Raju (22), Mallarapu Narsimhulu (22), Sankepally Babai (18) and Mughal Ramana (17).

Later addressing a press conference, the DIG said that surrender of the young cadre was an indication of resentment among recruits.

Annual day of

ryots' association

HYDERABAD: Problems facing farmers will be discussed at the annual day celebrations of the Federation of Farmers' Associations on April 18.

The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will inaugurate the function to be attended by 300 farmers. The annual general body meeting of the FFA will be also held.

Ajeya Kallam, Managing Director, Andhra Pradesh State Financial Corporation, will be the chief guest. - Staff Reporter

Decision on contract

appointments flayed

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Association on Sunday criticised the Government's decision to make contract appointments in RTC and Fire Services "which is contrary to the election promise" of the Congress.

R. Krishnaiah, president, in a press release appealed to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, not to belie the hopes of unemployed.

He opposed the move to fill vacant posts in the Tourism Department through outsourcing. - Staff Reporter

Ryot electrocuted

Kakinada: A farmer, Kalisetti Ramarao (38), was electrocuted at Dibbalapalem village in Yeleswaram mandal on Sunday.

The mishap occurred when a wire connected to a fan got snapped and fell on him while he was asleep. - Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI: The Tirumala-based Sri Pushpagiri Mutt has announced that mass `Upanayanam' would be performed free of cost at its premises on May 13, in connection with Sri Sankara jayanti.

TIRUPATI: P.V. Ramamurti, emeritus professor and the principal investigator of a UGC research project in SV University's Psychology Department, has been inducted to the UNFPA advisory group, which is scheduled to meet at Malta on April 21 and 22.

The meet will discuss matters of policy, research advocacy and capacity building issues with regard to ageing.

Minister's birthday

celebrated

ANANTAPUR: The Minister for Tourism and Sugar, J. Geeta Reddy, celebrated her birthday at Puttaparthi on Sunday.

She took the blessing of Sathya Saibaba at Sai Kulwanth Hall in the morning. Later, the Andhra Pradesh Women's Cricket Association celebrated her birthday at the guest house by cutting a cake. The Chairman of Sathya Sai Urban Development Authority (SUDA), K. Satyanarayana, the Puttaparthi MRO, Shankar, also greeted the Minister.

Mock EAMCET

conducted

ANANTAPUR: The All-India Students' Federation conducted a mock EAMCET here on Sunday with the cooperation of Chukka Ramaiah.

About 800 students preparing for the EAMCET-2005 appeared for the mock test. The district Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, who inaugurated the test said such mock tests should be a regular feature as it would help the students assess themselves for the real test.

Two hurt in group clash

NELLORE : Two fishermen were injured in a clash between two groups in Srinivasapuram village of Vakadu mandal.

According to available information, it was due to a row over distribution of relief material to the tsunami-affected fishermen, with one group objecting to the presence of another grou, from a nearby village of Kondurupalem. In the ensuing melee, two were injured and the police have stepped up security measures in the two villages.

House burgled

NELLORE: Unidentified persons who gained entry into a house in Kavali town, allegedly took away 30 sovereigns of ornaments and Rs. 25,000 in the late hours of Saturday. The renovation of the house seems to have come in handy for the intruders who reportedly entered after breaking open a door, taking advantage of the inmates sleeping in different rooms. They later decamped with the cash and ornaments, which was noticed only in the morning. -Staff Reporter
