New Director of IGI Airport

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: : The former Regional Executive Director of the North-Eastern Region, V.P. Agarwal, took over charge as Regional Executive Director of the Northern Region at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here this past week.

A postgraduate from the Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee, Mr. Agarwal has now been made in charge of two international airports, 24 domestic airports and six independent aeronautical communication stations falling under the northern region. He will also look after the communication, navigation and surveillance facilities and the air traffic management at IGI Airport.

Mr. Agarwal had also served as airport director in Srinagar during 1998-99.

Waste of public money

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Subhash Arya, has termed the Rs.6-lakh expenditure on mobile phones bills of Councillors and officials as sheer waste of public money.

Councillor and field officers up to the post of junior engineer were provided mobile phones about four months ago, but till date these mobile phone numbers have not been circulated among public representatives and officials leave alone the public, putting a big question mark over the entire exercise. He demanded that waste of public money should be stopped and cell phone numbers circulated so that people could contact their elected representatives and officials with their problems.

Pipeline repair work

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: : Due to major water pipeline repair work at Prem Badi Bridge, supply will remain affected at Model Town, Shalimar Bagh, Ashok Vihar, Lawrance Road, Shakur Basti, Punjabi Bagh and its adjoining areas in the evening of April 20. In case of emergency, water tankers will be available at telephone Nos. 27677877 (Kewal Park) and 25221181 (Punjabi Bagh).

Civic services

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has opened its first "Sugam Kendra" at Kalkaji in Central Zone to provide citizens access to easy civic services in each ward.

The centre was inaugurated at MCD Primary School at DDA Slum at Kalkaji by the Mayor, Satbir Singh, in presence of the local MLA, Subhash Chopra, and local Councillor, Virender Kasana.

New association

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: : U Anand Kumar of the New Indian Express and G Krishna Mohan of Eenadu have been unanimously elected president and general secretary of the newly-formed Delhi Telugu Journalists Association.

At its first meeting, Mr. Kumar said the Association's main objectives were to provide Telugu scribes a platform for exchange of views and promote their welfare.
