KOZHIKODE: The State-level education seminar organised by the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) held at the S. K. Pottekkatt Memorial here on Saturday has come out with a few recommendations including review of curriculum reforms and modernisation of the school mid-day meal programme. The seminar recommended a review of the curriculum reforms which was completed up to SSLC in a phased manner. It called for more democratisation of reform activities. It demanded that measures should be taken to strengthen the SSLC evaluation by rectifying the deficiencies. The 13 papers (for SSLC examinations) can be cut short to just its half. Focus should be on continuous and comprehensive evaluation. It said that the unification of parallel activities like Sarva Shiskha Abhiyan (SSA) was needed. The SSA activities have to be re-oriented into a programme of social participation. The school mid-day meal programme should be modernised with increase in its nutritive value. All students should be brought under its net. A comprehensive curriculum reforms should be implemented in the Higher Secondary School (HSS) sector rather than introducing grading reforms. Also, the administrative problems in the HSS sector should be addressed.
