Code of conduct in force in Kancheepuram for by-poll

KANCHEEPURAM: The Election Code of Conduct has come into force in Kancheepuram district from April 15 in view of the by-election schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, the District Election Officer and Collector, R. Venkatesan said. Candidates can submit their nomination papers to the Revenue Divisional Officer, Kancheepuram between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. from April 18 to 25. The candidates could not come in a procession to file their nomination papers as this has been banned by the Election Commission. They could use a maximum of three vehicles during the nomination, the Collector said in a press release.

There are about 2,35,636 voters (1,14,414 men and 1,21,222 women) in the Kancheepuram Assembly Constituency as per the revised electoral role. Meanwhile, the State Election Commission announced that the by-elections for Chengalpattu Municipal ward-5 and Chitamur Panchayat Union ward-15 would be held on April 19. While the Pattali Makkal Katchi candate, M. Parthasarathy will take on the ruling AIADMK nominee, T. Jayalakshmi for the Chitamur Panchayat Union ward-15, the DMK candidate J. Dhanasekaran will face the AIADMK candidate, C. Arjunan for the Chengalpattu Municipal ward-5 seat.
