BHADRACHALAM: The town has been spruced up for the Sita-Rama Kalyanam, celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Sita, marking the celebration of the Srirama Navami festival in the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamyvari Devathanams in the temple town on Monday. Pilgrims from distant places began arriving in large numbers. Tribals from the neighbouring Chhatisgarh and Orissa have also come in large numbers for the festival. Despite the best efforts to make the town a major tourist centre with all amenities, accommodation turned out to be a major problem for many. Those reaching the town by their own vehicles or private transport were driving straight to the river bank and rolling out carpets on the river-bed with the intention of spending the night in the open. They all joined the temple services, as the Utsav idols were taken to the river for the ritual bath in the river waters. Senior officials are camping here to supervise the arrangements. Drinking water supply and sanitation facilities are being reviewed by them from time to time. Over 500 workers were engaged in sanitation works and water supply, with some workers being drated from the neighbouring districts such as East Godavari. The police made elaborate bandobust arrangements in the temple town for the occasion. The Minister for Endowments, M. S. Satyanarayana Rao, is expected to arrive in the temple town on Sunday evening.
