Neglect of languages
But one should never neglect our great Indian languages, the languages which crores at people speak. Only these languages can be the basis and formulation for the concerted development of people irrespective of caste, creed or race. Indian languages should become truly modern capable of being used for all official work at all levels and for teaching of science and technology like the modern languages of Europe. The terminology should be very simple and understandable by the most ordinary person in the street. An extremely great amount of translation work is needed to bring in all the important works of the important cultures and philosophies of the world especially the renaissance and classical works of Europe. We should admit that efforts of our academicians in this direction are abjectly inadequate. While retaining our pride in our incomparable ancient civilisation, we should develop a modern scientific and tolerant out look free of all caste and religious prejudices. IN fact this is the aim set by the leaders of modern Indian renaissance like Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, Vivekananda, Nehru, Tilak etc. S.B.V.R. Shastry, Warangal
Honorary
docotorates
It has been observed that the people in film industry are getting doctorates of some universities without any basis and it looks the glamour has become a prime criteria for these doctorates. Once fails to understand how these film personalities are eligible for the doctorates of these universities! Though there are many good people with human and moral and ethical values in the film industry they are being sidetracked for reasons best known to them. No body knows the way the names are selected for the honorary doctorates, and whether these doctorates are being accepted by the Chancellor, the State Governor. Let there be a selection committee for awarding Honorary doctorates to individuals of various professions and voluntary and service organisations etc to be headed by a retired High Court judge with members drawn from the Government, social workers, and voluntary organisations. J.P. Reddy, Nalgonda
Develop Telangana
It is quite heartening that the Congress Government is determined to develop the backward region on a par with coastal Andhra. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, assured that his party is committed to wiping out the backwardness of the Telangana region and he would not rest till Telangana is developed. Dr. Reddy should have an open mind on all issues concerning backward Telangana and he must be ready to redress them in the given framework of an integrated State. Dr. Reddy's statement is a timely and right response to the separatists. The Congress leaders should not shirk from the responsibility for the injustice done to Telangana Region under powerful leaders like M. Channa Reddy, P.V. Narasimha Rao and others who hailed from Telangana region. M. Satyanarayana Rao, Hanamkonda
