MANGALORE: The Superintendent of Police, Soumendu Mukherjee, has entrusted a case of dacoity at Moodbidri to the District Crime Intelligence Bureau. Mr. Mukherjee told The Hindu here that the bureau works only on important cases. "Its track record in the recent past speaks for itself,'' he said justifying the decision to hand over case to the bureau. Referring to Friday's dacoity at Moodbidri, he said the modus operandi is similar to the dacoity incidents at Alangar and another one at Moodbidri and Karkala in Udupi district in the recent past. The indication is that those involved in the incident are all locals. He said the bureau will seek the help of its counterparts in Shimoga and Udupi districts. They will also receive assistance from the jurisdictional police. The bureau reports directly to the Superintendent of Police. Working in tandem with the Highway Patrol Squad of the Panambur sub-division, the bureau has cracked major cases.
