VAT exemption for broiler sought

Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE: The National Egg Co-ordination Committee (NECC) has urged the Kerala Government to withdraw 12.5 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) on broilers and dressed chicken.

The levy "hurts the interests of both poultry farmers and consumers," it said in a statement.

Poultry meat was an agricultural product and an item of mass consumption. Almost all States, except Kerala, exempted broilers and dressed chicken from the VAT, it said.
