Convocation tamasha

Sir, — Infatuation with the English language, alienation from Indian culture and values, craze for `convent' education and westernisation are going to a ridiculous extent as was evidenced by an English-medium school in the city holding a `convocation' for UKG pupils. This is not the first instance; two years ago a school in Yousufguda staged the same tamasha. Five and six-years-olds, dressed in convocation gown and caps, being marched up to the dais and some rootless VIP giving graduation (UKG) certificates is a revolting spectacle. The poor parents are made to exult in this preview of their children actually graduating in the future.

Pedestrian blues

Sir, — Pedestrians find it extremely difficult to cross the road at Yousufguda checkpost, a very busy centre.

The road dividers are `lame' with their wheels out of order. Traffic lights do not work and motorists take a shortcut to cross the road at the checkpost instead of taking a u-turn as per the traffic rules. I request those responsible to get the road-dividers repaired at the earliest.

Nagaraja Rao Kakuturu,

Yousufguda

Foot overbridge please

Sir, — Traffic snarls have become a daily feature in front of Vidyut Soudha. The office staff of Vidyut Soudha and the public are facing untold hardship in crossing the road.

I urge the authorities to build a foot overbridge connecting Eenadu side of RTA bus stop, near the Institute of Engineers to Khairatabad bus stop beside ICICI Bank, and, for the time being, post a traffic cop in front of Vidyut Soudha to help pedestrians cross the road.

K. Venkateswarlu,

Warisiguda

What a stink!

Sir, — The urinal in Lakdikapul opposite Syed Plaza in front of the police office reeks of urine overflowing on to the pavement and road forcing pedestrians to avoid the pavement and risk walking on the busy road. Even the bridge stinks with many using the huge water pipe to ease themselves. The railway side is used by many for unlawful purposes, beggars sleep on the pavement, and some have made it their permanent residence. Even the local hotels throw garbage over the bridge wall. Let this end, MCH!

M.V. Rao,

Lakdikapul

Handy bus stage

Sir, — APSRTC buses bound for Dilsukhnagar and Midhani originating from Mehdipatnam, Kukatpally and Jeedimetla (Metro Express and Veera Nos.: 156/299, 156/205F, 187 D/V, 225 D, 158 J, 127 d/K) are not touching Andhra Bank Headquarters stage (opposite A.G. Office), though right turn is allowed at Iqbal Minar. A stop here would be of great convenience to employees of A.G. Office , RBI, Director of School Education, LIC, Andhra Bank, etc. bound for Dilsukhnagar and beyond.

K. Sivaramakrishna,

Saroornagar

Train's glitches

Sir, — Why are the names and numbers of the to and fro trains from Hyderabad to Trivandrum different? With the daily train extended to Trivandrum, one expected change of the departure time from 12 noon to 10 a.m. or so. By not changing it, the whole day is wasted, as the train is always late.

Besides the train takes a detour Shornur making the journey longer by more than an hour. Why not find out how many actually get down at Shornur? Instead, the train can halt at important stations like Thiruvalla and Changanacherry, where all other trains stop.

SCR can also consider introducing halts for all trains at Moulali and Khairatabad, thereby reducing the crowd at Secunderabad station.

Gopa Kumar,

Saifabad
