NEW DELHI: Apart from turning the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium -- where the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, and the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, watched the sixth One-Day International between India and Pakistan -- into a virtual fortress on Sunday, the Delhi police and other security agencies were also busy throughout the day providing security to the President and the other VVIPs as they went about their day's engagements crisscrossing Lutyens' Delhi. Though Gen. Musharraf was expected to reach the stadium around 8-45 a.m. and watch the match along with Dr. Singh for about an hour, he stayed put till 10-30 a.m. They were seated in a special bulletproof enclosure along with the other VVIPs. After the match, the President had a rather busy schedule with a series of meetings with senior political leaders lined up through the day. However, the focus of security arrangements was at the Ferozeshah Kotla. Senior officers, from the level of the Deputy Commissioner of Police and above, personally monitored every movement in and around the stadium. Two helicopters were stationed at the adjacent Ambedkar Stadium, which were to be used to evacuate the VVIPs in case of any untoward incident. Around 4,000 personnel were deployed inside the stadium.
