NEW DELHI: Though originally scheduled to spend 70 minutes only, the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, and the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, along with their spouses, watched the sixth One-Day International match between the two countries for a good one and a half hours at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium here on Sunday. And with them were several other dignitaries from both sides. Minutes before the match was to commence, Gen. Musharraf and Dr. Singh arrived at the stadium and were introduced to the players of both teams. Among the other VVIPs present at the stadium were the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, the External Affairs Minister, Natwar Singh, the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, the Commerce and Industry Minister, Kamal Nath, the State Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, the Delhi and District Cricket Association chief, Arun Jaitley, and the Board for Control of Cricket in India president, Ranbir Singh Mahendra. Those present from the Pakistan side included the Foreign Minister, Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri, and the Pakistan Cricket Board, Shaharyar Khan. It is learnt that the Indian tennis sensation, Sania Mirza, was also there to watch the match. In view of the VVIP visits, security personnel and the DDCA officials reached the stadium as early as 4 a.m. and by 5-30 a.m. even the spectators had started queuing up outside. Though the police had earlier announced that traffic on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg would not be allowed from 7 a.m. onwards, the road was blocked around 5-30 a.m. itself.
