VIJAYAWADA: Complaints pertaining to inadequate drinking water, delay in release of old-age pensions and erratic power supply continued to pour in on Sunday, the third day of the Prajahita Yatra launched by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the city. Interacting with the residents in different residential colonies of 7th, 11th, 12th, and 14th divisions, the CPI (M) city committee secretary, Ch. Babu Rao, expressed concern that repeated representations asking the officials to solve the problems pertaining to basic amenities failed to yield results as the administration remained indifferent.
Remarks condemned
In this context, he took strong objection to the reported remarks made by the Municipal Commissioner, V. Usharani, that the response to the Praja Patham programme from people was lukewarm, as a majority of their problems had been solved. "It is unfortunate that the Commissioner made such remarks when scores of petitions made by people are pending redressal," he said asking the elected representatives to condemn Ms. Usharani's attitude. Reacting to the complaints received from the people about removal of public taps in the 7th division, Mr. Babu Rao contacted the officials concerned over telephone and asked them to restore the facility. He also requested the Chief Medical and Health Officer to take necessary steps when the residents of hill slopes complained about poor sanitation in their area.
