CHENNAI: The Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, on Monday said that the joint declaration of the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, "lacks credibility and sincerity of purpose." The talks were "so much hot air and media hype," he said. In a statement here, he said that Gen. Musharraf had committed many times to stop terrorists from crossing over to India and to dismantle terrorist camps. "But he cannot do so, not because he wants to deceive India, but because he cannot deliver on that promise given the fact that Islamic fundamentalists are well entrenched in his Government and in the Pakistan Army." The Prime Minister had committed to discuss the Kashmir problem and find a negotiated settlement. "But no Indian Prime Minister can dare make any settlement that falls short of recovering the Pakistan-held areas of Kashmir," he said.
