Fake note detectors for booking counters, parcel offices

Tiruchi railway division's move to curb counterfeit currency

TIRUCHI: In order to detect and curb the circulation of fake currencies in railway transactions, the Railway administration has provided fake note detector machines to booking/reservation counters and parcel offices in Tiruchi division.

A total of 111 fake note detector machines have been provided to the reservation counters at 40 stations.

Of the 111 machines, 92 were handed over to to 30 stations today.

The machines have been procured at a cost of Rs. 1,200 each.

The Divisional Railway Manager D.K. Saraf handed over the machines to the commercial staff at the computerised passenger reservation centre at Tiruchi Junction here.

Training to staff

In a brief interaction with presspersons here, Mr. Saraf said that of the total 900 commercial staff, 500 have been given training in detection of fake notes by the officers of Reserve Bank of India, Chennai and State Bank of India, Tiruchi.

The rest would be trained during the current year.

More stations to get

The Division Railway Manager said that there was a plan to procure more such machines to provide to more number of reservation counters at various stations coming under the Division.
