Ryots to Africa: forum asked to study viability
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has assured the Federation of Farmers' Associations that it would be involved in the process of sending farmers to Africa and asked it to study the plan's feasibility.
Speaking at the federation's annual day here on Monday, he said farmers who visit Africa should not face difficulties and suggested that the FFA send a team. The Government would extend financial help for the visit.
Dr. Reddy promised that "everything and anything possible" would be done for farmers' welfare. Referring to the free power supply scheme, he said it was being streamlined to prevent losses to farmers and urged them to install power-saving devices. Though it was earlier felt that about 93 per cent would be eligible for free power, he said the number might go up by two to three per cent.
The chairman of the federation, P.Chengal Reddy, appealed to the Government to recognise the body and involve it in decisions relating to agriculture.
