NIZAMABAD: Beneficiaries who were sanctioned houses under the Indira Awas Yojana and other housing schemes are likely to forego them if they do not take up construction by the end of the current month. Sounding an alert over the Government's decision, the Minister for Rural Development, D. Srinivas, said that if the old beneficiaries failed to start the construction the houses allotted to them would be taken back and given to new applicants. Attending the Praja Patham programme at Nyalkal, Mallaram and Dharmaram villages in Nizamabad mandal, he said the Government had accorded the second priority to housing for weaker sections after the irrigation projects. "Our Government wishes to build 40 lakh houses in five years. In accordance with this ambitious plan it is making efforts to ensure construction of six lakh houses this year,'' the Minister said. In response to the request of the residents of Dharmaram village, Mr. Srinivas asked the authorities to increase the number of houses sanctioned to the village under the IAY from 20 to 100 houses immediately.
