Jewellery looted

from house

TIRUCHI: : Gold jewellery weighing 77 sovereigns was reported burgled from a locked house at Mahalakshmi Nagar in Varaganeri in the city. The crime occurred when the house owner Ramesh Babu, a vegetable dealer, had left for Kumbakonam along with his family members on April 16, the police here said.

When he returned home today, he found the back door of his house opened and the valuables missing from the almirah. The Gandhi Market police have registered a case.

Four with illicit

arrack held

The City Prohibition and Enforcement Wing (PEW) arrested four persons including two women on the charge of possession of illicit arrack. All the four were held at Udaiyanpatti on Sunday, the police here said.

A total of 12,700 millilitres of illicit arrack were seized from Sathyamoorthy, Pappa, Periyakka and Selvam. All the four were later remanded. The City PEW has registered cases.

Nabbed for eve-teasing

A 20-year-old youth was arrested at the Central Bus Stand here on Sunday on the charge of eve teasing.

Kannan (20) of Thuvakudi allegedly teased women at the public place, the police here said. He was later sent for remand. The Cantonment All Women Police have registered a case.

Exhibition

The Airports Authority of India will organise a two-day exhibition of airport fire service equipment on April 19 and 20 for the general public at the Airport here.

A release from the Airport Director, Tiruchi, S. Sreekumar, today said the exhibition would be held at the Airport Training Hall. There will not be any entry fee for this. The exhibition is between 10 a.m and 3 p.m. on these days, the release added.

Pensioners' plea

The Tiruchi District Pensioners' Association has urged the State Government to constitute an official committee to review the implementation of the pensioners' family welfare as well as medical aid fund schemes.

A resolution was adopted at the association's executive committee meeting held here on Sunday.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 53.76 feet today. The inflow was 1,134 cusecs and the discharge 800 cusecs. — Staff Reporter.
